This week, President Obama is taking the first major step towards fulfilling on his campaign promise to reform our broken immigration system. He has invited Congressional leaders to the White House on Thursday for a working session on immigration reform.

Please take a couple of minutes to customize and send a fax to your Representative saying that you expect Congress to commit to real action this year, not just "check the box" on immigration by having a few high-profile meetings:

I know, we already asked you to send a fax a couple of weeks ago. But campaigns like this succeed or fail by volume and repetition. We have to keep telling Congress and the White House that we expect them to find workable solutions that are consistent with our values and move us forward together -- and we expect them to do it this year.

Border Czar in TucsonThursday, June 18th, Border Action Network and the US-Mexico Border and Immigration Task Force hosted a group of high-level officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to participate in a Border Policy “Listening Session”. Recently appointed Border Czar Alan Bersin, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Chief of Staff Marco Lopez, Border Patrol Chief David Aguilar, Tucson Sector Chief Robert Gilbert, nominee for U.S. Attorney in Arizona Dennis Burke and other officials, participated in what is an ongoing effort by the U.S.-Mexico Border and Immigration Task Force to bring the voices and leadership of border communities to the national debate on border enforcement and immigration policies.

U.S.-Mexico Border Task Force members and other local experts presented policy recommendations focused on providing solutions and visions for accountable, economically viable and humane border policy to the DHS officials, as well as to the over 100 member audience who was in attendance to listen to the discussion, representing environmental groups, faith leaders, business associations, attorneys, humanitarian aid groups, Border Action Human Rights Committees, and others. Momentum Keeps Building for Immigration Reform
Advocacy - Border & Immigration Reform
Thursday, May 21 2009 20:13
Yesterday, May 20th, four (yes, four!) notable events indicate that momentum continues to build in Washington to debate immigration reform this year. President Obama announced that he is inviting members of Congress to a summit at the White House on June 8th to discuss reforming our nation's immigration policies. Senators Menendez (D-NJ), Gillibrand, (D-NY), Kennedy (D-MA), and Schumer (D-NY) introduced the Reuniting Families Act, legislation that would resolve family immigration backlogs, recapture unused visas, and promote timely reunification of immigrant families. The Senate Immigration Subcommittee held its second immigration hearing titled "Securing the Borders and America's Points of Entry, What Remains to Be Done." Also the Police Foundation released a report titled "The Role of Local Police: Striking a Balance Between Immigration Enforcement and Civil Liberties" on the impact and costs of immigration enforcement by local police.
