Rep. Grijalva Statement Following the Supreme Court Hearing on Arizona v. United States – “Look at What’s Really at Stake Today”
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva today released the following statement following the U.S. Supreme Court hearing on the constitutionality of Arizona’s SB 1070 immigration crackdown law. Rep. Grijalva attended this morning’s oral arguments and spoke before a crowd of SB 1070 opponents on the Supreme Court steps after the hearing ended.
“Two years ago, Gov. Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 into law and set a political fire that we’ve seen spread across the country. We’ve seen firsthand the humanitarian and economic injustices SB 1070 has caused – the harassment and profiling of those who appear ‘foreign,’ the unjustified separation of families, and the devastation of our local and regional economy.

Our statewide organizing drive is off to a fantastic start. All across Arizona, immigrant families are getting trained in how they can be heard by policy makers - Now is the time to reform immigration! Since the campaign kicked off, we have trained 280 people in Ajo, Yuma, Somerton, San Luis, Wellton, Gila Bend, Casa Grande, Miami, Globe, Claypool, Mesa, Phoenix, Avondale, Buckey, Gilbert, Surprise, Nogales, Sierra Vista, Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley and Cottonwood. With over 40 stops under our belt, we continue to collect thousands of postcards, sign up new members, enlist people in the national action alert texting system, and get peoples emails so they can receive e-alerts to push policy makers to support reforming immigration.
If you haven't already done so, join our efforts by:

Now for September 17th Forum
In July we introduced more than 200 of you to the Opportunity Agenda and the Reform Immigration For America Campaign sharing their well-researched message strategy to achieve Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR). We learned about what works to move broad audiences to support CIR, even when facts and appeals to compassion can't reach them. Since then, AzAN's Immigration Task Force has been working to turn that message into a tool for our Speakers Bureau to roll out across the state. Come see our new presentation! Our Task Force will demonstrate how we can reach broad audiences, and how we can avoid pitfalls that ignite their fears. This will be fun, interactive and empowering!
Date: Thursday, September 17th Time: Refreshments at 5pm;Program begins at 6pm Where: Grace Lutheran Church, 1124 N. 3rd Street (SW Corner of 3rd & Moreland just south of the I-10)
