Over the past couple of weeks, more than 2,600 signatures were gathered from Border Action members and supporters requesting that Pima Co. Board of Supervisors immediately issue a statement to clarify no county resources nor county agency will question children about their citizenship status.

The petition was delivered to the Pima Board of Supervisors by a group of 20 Pima County residents on Tuesday, May 19, 2009.

Recent statements by Pima Co. Sheriff Clarence Dupnik that schools should be asking children their immigration status followed by calls to Immigration and Customs Enforcement has sent a tremor of fear throughout Pima County. National and State research prove immigrants boost Arizona's economy and have lower than average crime rates. Instead of targeting school children and harassing families who are part of our community, we want resources to fund education, health care, and protecting civil and human rights for all.
