Report on our Annual General Assembly Print E-mail
Tuesday, April 28 2009 15:07
2009-asambleaBorder Action Network leaders from across the state gathered at the El Pueblo Neighborhood Center in Tucson on Saturday, April 18th to discuss how we should be part of the national effort to push for comprehensive immigration and border policy reform this year. The group evaluated our work in 2008 and charted a course for 2009-2010. Nearly 125 of our leaders from Human Rights Committees, Human Rights Promoters, Board of Directors from Tucson, Nogales, Douglas, Pirtleville, Sierra Vista, Prescott and Flagstaff  participated in this important annual planning meeting! After analyzing the current political climate, members prioritized the 3 political principles--out of our entire list of 12 political principles, that they found most relevant to the year ahead.

The results are:

1) Permanent Residency
2) Family Unity
3) Workers Rights

We would like to thank Senator Jorge Luis García and South Tucson City Council Member Carlos Salas for attending and speaking to us about the importance of and impact organized communities can have on their elected officials and how communities continue to play a positive role in the debate for immigration reform.
