Thank you!
Civic Engagement Campaign

To our amazing volunteers and supporters, thank you for your dedication and willingness to help with our Civic Engagement Campaign these past few months. Together with the Latino Policy Coalition and Mi Familia Vota we registered over 200 new voters and got 232 people registered for PEVL (the Permanent Early Voter List). Over 50 volunteers covered 19 polling locations on November 6th, assisting the Arizona Advocacy Network Foundation with their Election Protection poll monitoring efforts. "La unión hace la fuerza" and your participation is making a difference! We are looking forward to your enthusiasm and vigor as we prepare for the upcoming Arizona legislative session and other future civic engagement efforts.

The 2012 Presidential Election results clearly defined a changing electorate. NonprofitVote.org released a report showing a marked increase in voter turnout in lower income, younger, and more diverse populations (read the full report here).

  • The Latino share of the electorate increased to 10% this year.
  • Young voters (under 30) claimed a higher share of total turnout in 2012 (19%) than in 2008 (18%).
  • Black voters maintained their share of the electorate at 13%.
  • Voters with family income below $50,000 jumped three points increasing their share to 41%.

In addition,
an estimated 35% of the electorate voted early in 2012, compared to 30% in 2008.

Nevertheless, we have heard there were long lines that lasted way into the evening. We have also heard there were problems with provisional ballots and that some polling places ran out of them.

We’d love to hear from you about your experiences so we can inform the County Recorder. Please let us know in what county and poll location you experienced your issues by sending a message here, on our Facebook Page, or our Twitter.

Congratulations on a fantastic campaign and for putting the "Action" in Border Action Network!
