ADDITIONAL BORDER FENCING WITHIN THE CITY OF DOUGLAS AS WELL AS

Tucson as he announced his campaign for re-election at the Justice Court Courthouse.
We talked with Terry’s supporters and campaign workers about his failure to
prosecute border vigilantes in Cochise County. The majority of attendees were
supportive and signed postcards calling on Terry to prosecute vigilantes and
put on stickers that said “Stop Border Vigilantes Para la Paz y Seguridad” (for
peace and safety). We had tipped off Telemundo and they came to cover the event
and interviewed Border Action campaign coordinator Gustavo Lozano. We’ll be
following Terry on the campaign trail until he meets with people who were terrorized

On October 30th, 2004, border vigilante Roger Barnett detained members of the Morales and English families in Douglas, Arizona, threatening them with a loaded AR-15 assault rifle and attack dogs, and barraging them with verbal abuse and racist insults. The children, ages 9-11, and their parents, who believed Barnett intended to murder them, suffered severe emotional trauma. Charged with enforcing immigration laws and drug policies, the Border Patrol has allocated over 80% of its agents to the southern US-Mexico border. After September 11th, the Border Patrol gained national prominence as one of the key anti-terrorism forces. With that, their budget and power has grown. Unfortunately, the oversight and accountability of the Border Patrol to the communities they work in and the people they detain has, at best, stayed the same if not diminished.
